การเดินทางบนสายป่านแห่งภาษา มิย. ๔๙ ควีนส์แลนด์ ออสเตรเลีย

ยิ่งเดินทางขึ้นเหนือห่างไกลจากเมืองใหญ่มาเท่าไหร่ ผมยิ่งพบว่าการพูดคุยกับชาวออสเตรเลียยิ่งทำได้ยากมากขึ้นเท่านั้น สำเนียงและการออกเสียงมันเพี้ยนไปเรื่อยๆจนผมฟังไม่รู้เรื่องเอาเลย

ระลึกความ: จากความรู้ของอาจารย์นิธิ จิตร และจ๋า ผมได้พบว่า สิ่งที่เราเรียกว่าภาษาหรือสำเนียงถิ่นนั้น บ่อยครั้งเราแบ่งมันออกเป็นภาษาต่างๆเนื่องจากความหลงยึดในความเป็นเขาเป็นเรา

ในอดีต (หรือแม้แต่ในปัจจุบัน) ผู้คนในชุมชนต่างๆจะมีการออกเสียงในภาษาเพี้ยนแตกต่างออกไป
ยิ่งหมู่บ้านอยู่ห่างไกลกันมากเท่าใดการออกเสียงก็อาจจะเพี้ยนไปได้มากเท่านั้น แต่มันก็ยังเป็นภาษาเดียวกันอยู่
หากแต่เมื่อมนุษย์เริ่มขีดเส้นเขตแดนและแบ่งกลุ่มพวก จำนวนของภาษาจึงเพิ่มขึ้นเพราะยึดเอาว่าการออกเสียงแบบนี้คือภาษาของชาวนี้พวกนั้น

the further north i travelled up in queensland, the harder it gets to understand how people speak. by the time i was about 200 km from cairns i could barely understand anyone..strewth, mate!

ps: my history professor says that languages or dialects are percieved and counted as different languages only if we look at it from a 'self' perspective.

it means that, usually, what we count as a different language or dialect is not a 'different' language per se. in the past, (or even nowadays) from village to village, people pronounced and called things slicely different because of various reasons, yet it was the same language.. but only when people started to make border and separated themselves from one another, the number of languages proliferated.

it is the mind that attaches to self and clings on to the need to have identity that separate us from another.

ความทรงจำที่เรามีต่อเหตุการณ์ต่างๆนั้น บ่อยครั้งเป็นความทรงจำที่สร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ เนื่องจากเราได้ดูรูปภาพที่ถ่ายไว้
ความทรงจำที่เกิดขึ้นภายหลังนั้นเป็นความทรงจำที่เราสร้างขึ้นมาเอง และไม่ใช่ความทรงจำที่เกิดจากสัมผัสจริง
ความทรงจำเหล่านี้ในที่สุดจะไปแทนที่ความทรงจำแท้

ผมลองเดินทางไปที่ต่างๆโดยไม่มีกล้อง ความทรงจำที่ได้มันแตกต่างกันมากทีเดียว

i learned that our memories of events are often constructed later through artificial means such as looking at the pictures we took.
such memories are therefore self-constructed.
these memories then eventually replace the original ones.
